- The scholarships offer foreign graduates from development and newly industrialized countries the opportunity to pursue a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a German university, and in exceptional cases, a doctoral degree.
Who can apply?
- Graduates with at least two years of professional experience from eligible countries.
What can be funded?
- Individual scholarships for postgraduate courses in Germany listed on the official website.
Duration of the funding:
- 12 to 42 months, depending on the study program.
Value:
- Monthly payments of 934 euros for graduates or 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates, depending on the academic level.
- Payments towards health, accident, and personal liability insurance.
- Travel allowance, unless covered by the home country or another funding source.
- Additional benefits may be provided, such as monthly rent subsidy and family allowance.
Selection:
- Candidates must fulfill academic requirements and be expected to successfully complete a study program in Germany.
- Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in a related subject, with at least two years of professional experience.
- Motivation should be development-related, and candidates should be willing to take on social responsibility and initiate processes of change after their training/scholarship.
Language skills:
- For study courses in German: Successful passing of the language examination DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 before the start of the study course.
- For courses in English: IELTS (Band 6) certificate or TOEFL (minimum scores specified).
Application deadline:
- Varies depending on the chosen study program. Applicants should refer to the scholarship brochure or the website of their preferred program.

- Applications should be sent directly to the respective course/university.
- Required documents include a completed checklist, DAAD application form, curriculum vitae, letter of motivation, letter of recommendation, certificate(s) of employment, proof of language skills, copies of higher education degree certificates, full set of transcript of records, and an APS Certificate (for applicants from the People’s Republic of China).
Application and Selection Procedure:
- Step 1: Submit a complete application(s) directly to the chosen postgraduate course.
- Step 2: A selection committee suggests potential candidates for a DAAD scholarship.
- Step 3: The suggested candidates are contacted by the DAAD to upload their complete application to the DAAD Portal.
- Step 4: The selection process is finalized, and the suggested candidates are informed accordingly.

- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
