Dag Hammarskjöld Journalism Fellowships A Unique Opportunity for Journalists 2023

The Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists invites applications from career journalists in developing nations of Africa, Asia (including Pacific Island nations), Latin America, and the Caribbean. The selected journalists will cover the United Nations General Assembly deliberations for 10-12 weeks starting in September. 

Fellows will deepen their understanding of the UN’s work, interact with media colleagues worldwide, and report on issues relevant to their audiences. The 2023 Fellowship will run concurrently with the UNGA starting September 9th.

Eligibility

  • The Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists is open to career journalists, aged 25-35, from mainly developing nations in Africa, Asia (including Pacific Island countries), and Latin America/the Caribbean.
  • Freelance journalists are also eligible (see Freelance Requirements below).
  • Applicants must have a current passport and be employed by bona fide media organizations as print, television, radio, or web journalists.
  • Proficiency in English is required, as it is one of the primary languages used by the United Nations.
  • Work samples no earlier than 2022 must be provided (see Work Samples on Application Form).
  • Journalists younger than 25 and older than 35 are not eligible to apply, and journalism students are also ineligible.
  • European journalists are not eligible to apply, except those still reporting to audiences in their home country.
  • Applicants must obtain an I-1 journalist visa from a U.S. Embassy or Consulate to accept the fellowship.
