What is the Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship?
The Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship is a full scholarship awarded to highly talented international students from outside the European Union (EU) who have been admitted to a master’s program at Maastricht University (UM). The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, health insurance, visa application costs, pre-academic training costs, and travel expenses.
Who is eligible for the Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship?
- You must be a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Suriname.
- You must meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
- You must not hold dual nationality from an EU/EEA country.
- You must have applied for admission to a participating full-time master’s programme at UM.
- You must meet the specific admission requirements of the UM master’s programme to which you have applied.
- You must have never participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands. Students who have completed exchange programmes in the Netherlands are welcome to apply.
- You must not be older than 35 years of age on 1 September 2024.
- You must have obtained excellent results during your prior education programs, as demonstrated by your latest grade transcript or certified by academic excellence.
Scholarship duration:
The NL-High Potential scholarship is awarded for the full duration of the master’s programme, which is 13 months for a one-year program and 25 months for a two-year program.
Scholarship amount:
The NL-High Potential scholarship programme 2024-2025 covers the following costs:
- Living expenses: €12,350 (13 months) or €23,750 (25 months)
- Health and liability insurance: €700
- Visa application costs: €210
- Tuition fees: At cost
- Pre-academic training costs: At cost
How to apply:
To apply for the NL-High Potential scholarship, you must first apply for admission to a master’s programme at UM. Once you have been conditionally accepted into a programme, you can complete the scholarship application form on the UM website. The deadline to apply is 1 February 2024.

The selection process for the NL-High Potential scholarship is highly competitive. The scholarship committee will review all applications and select the top 5% of applicants based on their academic excellence and motivation for the scholarship.
